As per a WHO-Unicef report 1.1 billion people in the world defaecate in the open of which an overwhelming majority of 638 million are Indians. Why are people so dirt poor that they cannot afford a hole in the ground with some sacking around it for privacy? Because they are illiterate and continue to produce children without any regard to how they are going to feed, clothe or educate them. Politicians are forever telling us what to do but why do they never tell the poor to control childbirth? Because these people can then be classified as BPL or Below the Poverty Line and given cheap grains from ration shops. So what is wrong in feeding the poor? In a report a vigilance committee appointed by the Supreme Court says that the entire system has collapsed is some states. In others licenses for ration shops are available for bribes, rations may be delayed for months, grains are sold for profit in the black market or are sold for prices higher than set by the government. Naturally there is collusion between kleptocrats, transporters and shop owners. Since grand larceny requires a chain of command local politicians must be at the top of the food chain. So what are the gains of unchecked population growth? It provides unlimited cheap labor for the unorganised sector, mainly construction and small scale industries, where the black money is generated. It also gives the politicians an excuse to increase taxes without limit. Why do they want to impoverish people by crippling taxes? So as to buy luxury planes and helicopters for their own use and to keep the people grateful for inadequate, rotting rations. Incredible India.
