People of Egypt and Tunisia do not realise how enormously lucky they are. Both dictators have been deposed along with their families. Sadly we in India still suffer a police state ruled by various families where power passes down the generations with no relief for citizens from the genetic scoundrels. One family has been around since independence living in mansions costing Rs 3 billion each with 24/7 security and a luxurious lifestyle, that even Bill Gates cannot dream of, at taxpayers' expense. Responding to a Public Interest Litigation by one Vishwanath Chaturvedi in March, 2007 the Supreme Court had ordered the CBI to probe the " disproportionate assets " ( big words for loot ) accumulated by Mr. Mulayam Singh, previous Chief Minister of UP and his sons. Needless to say the CBI has done nothing and is now appealing to the Supreme Court to withdraw the order because it could not find any " violation of fundamental rights of citizens." Strangely it was the Attorney General who advanced this strange argument in favor of Mr. Yadav. Mr. Yadav's Samajwadi Party is supporting the Congress in parliament which explains the CBI's lassitude. It may not be our fundamental right but surely it is the fundamental duty of the state to protect the exchequer from loot. The present Chief Minster of UP, Ms Mayawati has said that the Congress offered to withdraw two cases of disproportionate assets against her after the 2004 elections in exchange for her support in parliament. Criminal politicians control police and investigating agencies and this is handed down the generations. It seems that we Indians will suffer a criminal police state in perpetuity.
