For Indians, even educated ones, it is impossible to understand games played by politicians. A headline on the front page of today's Times of India reads, " Sonia's NAC prevails over govt on RTI, forest rights." Seems that Ms Sonia Gandhi chairs something called the National Advisory Council which disagreed with the government over the rights of tribals over forest land and has emerged the victor. What does this mean? As every 2 year old knows the Congress consists of invertebrate worms who will commit any crime or any act of self humiliation to keep The Family in power. So if Ms Gandhi wants something the plastic puppets will instantly bend over and lick her shoes. The same paper reported on February 7 that one NC Saxena, member of the said NAC, has been accused by the Indian Forest Service Association of trying to force Association officials to distribute forest land illegally by issuing threats. Seems that the Saxena committee wanted to distribute forest lands under control of the Forest Service worth Rs 500 billion to traditional forest dwellers under the Forest Rights Act. On January 17 the paper reported that the Forest Service classifies bamboo as timber and controls its trade worth some Rs 100- 150 billion per annum. Bamboo is in demand for the paper pulp and construction industries and is estimated to grow by 15% annually providing enormous revenue for the Forest Service. The only problem is that bamboo is scientifically classified as grass and definitely not timber. If all this is confusing the answer is simple. This being India criminal politicians and thieving civil servants must be ripping off the people somewhere. Easy.
