Poor innocent children. Born in a dirt poor country, living in shanties and now suddenly crushed by a massive earthquake. Recent history of Haiti is beyond belief. Crushed by decades of evil wrought by Papa Doc Duvalier who used voodoo and the dreaded Ton Ton Macoute to brutalise the population. His son Baby Doc did not have the same panache and did a runner with whatever cash he could lay his hands on and is now living in France. Since then not much has gone right for this pitiful country. In 2008 at least four hurricanes battered the country and the people are yet to recover from its effects and now this. Of all the natural disasters earthquake is the worst and the most frightening. In a volacanic erruption a pyroclastic flow kills in seconds. It may take a few minutes to die to die of drowning in a tsunami but in an earthquake a person lies trapped under chunks of concrete for days of agony until life slowly drains away. Apparently Port au Prince had more than a million children. Who knows how many have died a painful death not knowing why they were chosen for this cursed life. It is the poor who produce large numbers of children into chronic deprivation and untimely death. The religions encourage the poor to breed ever more in a race to increase followers promising an afterlife of gold but causing lifelong misery in this one. Is it an omen that the cathedral burnt down?
