The taxi driver was of the opinion that they will never finish on time. He meant all the infrastructure work going on in Delhi for the most useless Commonwealth Games to be held in two months time. Already some leading athletes, such Usain Bolt, have said they will not be competing. Others will cancel if there is the slightest terrorist attack anywhere in India just before the games. Meanwhile the same work has been done more than once and yet the results look shoddy. Roads have been laid and relaid and still they are wavy. The dividers look crooked. Perfectly straight lampposts were uprooted and new ones erected leaning drunkenly to one side. Everything is decided on whim. Now suddenly it has been decided that overhead electric cables should be buried underground. Hugely crowded shopping areas like Karol Bagh and Connaught Place have been dug up resulting in total traffic chaos. Shopkeepers are making huge losses as customers stay away. Taxpayers money is being wasted on an unprecedented scale as taxes are being raised on everything from petrol to beer. So where is all this money going? Obviously criminal politicians, thieving civil servants and their friendly contractors have made tens of billions in cash. What is the evidence that these bandits are looting like never before? It is in the 600% rise in prices of property since 2002. In India half the price of any property is paid in cash and this the best hiding place for criminal loot. Once the useless games are over roads will develop potholes, car parks will break and eletric cables will probably be dug up again. What about the people of Delhi who will have suffered endless inconveniences and loss of money? They can go to hell. After all Delhi also has a Congress government.
