From Global South to the moon.

"Pakistan beat India with more than double the votes to secure the post of vice-chair of the United Nations Educational Organisation (UNESCO) board last week. Out of 58 members of the executive board, 38 voted for Pakistan, 18 for India and 2 abstained. The Print. In September, "Throughout its presidency of the G20, India shares a vision of being the voice of the Global South and the country has ensured to walk the talk with its focus on raising concerns." ET. At the G20 summit India was lauded as the leader of the Global South. Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs Maneesh Gobin said that "India's presidency under the sterling leadership of Prime Minister Modi will without doubt go down in history as one which has lived up to its call for sustainable and human-centered development." ET. On 24 November, Pakistan's foreign ministry tweeted that their candidate won "with overwhelming support from the Asia-Pacific Group". Which means part of the Global South. India's permanent mission to UNESCO is led by Vishal V Sharma who "served as officer on special duty to Modi during the latter's term as Gujarat chief minister. He gained a certain amount of notoriety for calling Modi a 'supercomputer'." The Wire. Just a few days back, poor illiterate rat-hole miners were successful in rescuing workers trapped in a tunnel in Uttarkashi within 24 hours when our officials and engineers failed for 17 days. BBC. Officials explained that there was no need for an escape tunnel as the single tube is divided into two inter-connected corridors by a partition wall." TOI. The workers couldn't escape, could they? What is worse is that it should have been foreseen because, "According to a TOI report, around 19-20 minor to medium-level collapses occurred during the construction of Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel in the past 5 years." News18. Perhaps, the rat-hole miners should be made directors of the project. One of the supplementary reading modules for school students brought out by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)  says, "The leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi played a crucial role in the triumph of Chandrayaan-3 and landed our country's name on the moon." The Telegraph. The PM chaired a high level meeting, at which he instructed scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) to establish an Indian space station by 2035 and send the first Indian astronaut to the moon by 2040. TOI. Pakistan's "iron brother" China (cgtn) had to insult India. Chinese scientist Ouyang Ziyuan said that Chandrayaan-3 landed "nowhere near the lunar south pole". TIE. Pakistan may have won the Global South vote. But they will have to see India's name every time they look at the moon. So there.
