Dividing to extinction.
"The Bihar government...made public the results of its controversial caste-based survey just months ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls." India Today. "Also known as the Bihar Jaaati Adharit Ganana, the census shows that Scheduled Castes (SC) account for over 19% of the 13-crore (130 million) population, while Scheduled Tribes (ST) make up 1.68%. The upper castes, or 'savarnas', form 15.52% of the state's population. The detailed break-up of the survey reveals that the backward classes constitute 27% of the population, while the extremely backward classes (EBCs) comprise 36%. Together, they constitute the numerically powerful Other Backward Classes (OBCs) who have dominated Bihar's politics since the Mandal wave." Since Independence in 1947, all Center and state governments have had a policy of Reservation in higher education and government jobs. SCs have a 15% quota in Reservations, STs have 7.5% quota while OBCs have 27% quota. 3% of seats are reserved for the differently-abled. Legal Service. These categories can also compete for the-less-than 40% of seats decided on merit. Tamil Nadu has a reservation policy of 69%. wikipedia. The 2019 All India Debt and Investment Survey revealed that "the average value of assets of non-SC/ST/OBC household was Rs 32,82,842 which is 1.8-1.3 times the average assets of SC, ST and OBC household." wrote Abhishek Jha and Roshan Kishore. However, assets may be inherited, so the monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) was calculated from the latest Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS). This showed that "non-SC/ST/OBCs have a much bigger share in higher MPCE brackets than their share in population." "Regular wage/salaried jobs have the best income levels in India," and "the PLFS data shows that not only do non-SC/ST/OBC workers have a higher relative share in salaried jobs, their advantage increases with salaries." Why? If seats in the top-ranking institutions of higher education, such as medical colleges, the IITs and IIMs, have been reserved for backward classes for 76 years since Independence why are they still earning less? Does it prove that reservation is not working? Opposition parties see this as a big opportunity to upset the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming general election and have demanded similar surveys in the "heartland states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh". HT. The Congress Party "being hand in glove with anti-India forces, is trying to divide Hindu society and wants to destroy the country," said Modi. But, as recently as 1 October, Modi said that the Congress "hated him because despite being an OBC he became the Prime Minister". TIE. With an 80% popularity rating (NDTV), Modi had an opportunity to ban castes, target subsidies to the deserving poor, regardless of caste, and really unite all Hindus, but instead resorted to dividing SC/ST/OBCs into smaller groups. "In the process, the BJP was fairly successful in fragmenting OBC and Dalit communities as separate political groups." The Wire. Apparently, Modi is a Hindu leader whose "lifelong ambition appears to be to unite Hindus and empower them so that they are never again ruled by other religions as it was in the past, first by Islam and later by Christianity," wrote Ashutosh. Instead, by using Hindus as stormtroopers for enhancing his power he may have written the obituary of Hinduism and the extinction of Hindus. What a legacy!
