Two news items on BBC tv this morning, both on war criminals. The first piece was about Radovan Karodzic, the former Bosnian Serb leader, who is on trial at the Hague. This report alleged that Karodzic was responsible for the deaths of upto 7000 muslims and interviewed a man, reportedly a relative of a victim. The impression was of an evil man who deserves the severest punishment. This piece was followed by one on Tony Blair who took Britain into an illegal war in Iraq by lying to the House of Commons and is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, also muslims. However, this item did not mention the genocide that he perpetrated but chose to concentrate on whether this war criminal will be chosen as the first President of Europe as per the Lisbon treaty. Here the reporter did not interview an Iraqi whose children have been killed by the British but chose to interview David Milliband, a minister in the present Labour government. About thirty years back Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India, threw BBC out of India for being a propaganda channel. Things have not changed much since then.
