The latest proposal to diffuse the Iranian nuclear crisis is to transport its enriched uranium to Russia, where it will be treated, thence to France, where it will be cooked some more, and then back to Iran again for use in its nuclear power plant. In its tourist travels enriched uranium, which is extremely hazardous, may have an accident, may be hijacked or just blown up to create the mother of all pollutions equal to ten Chernobyls. Of course, Iran is lying through its teeth and will use every stratagem to delay transporting its uranium until it has enough for a few bombs which it will hide just as it had hidden its plant under Qom until caught. Why do countries continue to play games when nothing ever comes out of it? Is it just to give diplomats something to do to justify the enormous expense of maintaining them? Iran has huge oil and gas reserves while North Korea is a beggar nation surviving on handouts. Yet the international community does not have the guts to cut off all food aid in case it launches a last ditch attack on the south in its desperation. Yet talks about talks about talks go on while diplomats shuttle back and forth in first class, stay in five star and blabber about progress. Saddam capitulated because he was stupid and beaten. Perhaps we should prepare for round two.
