The founder was from Bengal.

On 27 October, a Congress leader was heard humming a song by Rabindranath Tagore 'Amar Sonar Bangla, aami to May bhalobashi' (My golden Bengal, thee I love) in Barak Valley, Assam. This song was first sung on 25 August 1905 in the Town Hall of Calcutta during British occupation. The local BJP unit said this was treason because the first two stanzas of the song have been adopted by Bangladesh as its national anthem. Chief Minister of Assam Hemanta Biswa Sarma repeated the accusation," wrote Joydeep Biswas . Is Tagore guilty of treason because Bangladesh adopted his song? Then what about another song, also composed by Tagore, which was adopted by India as its National Anthem on 24 January 1950 (knowindia. india.gov.in)? It's not just Tagore, but the Bengali language that is seen as the enemy by the BJP. In July 2025, over 400 people were rounded up in Gurgaon, Haryana, for speaking Bengali. TOI. This may be why Prime Minister Narendra Modi denounced 'ghuspaithiye'  (infiltrators) in his Independence Day speech (The Print). Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been smuggling arms and drugs across the border into Indian Punjab (News18), where some Sikhs have been agitating for an independent Khalistan (Britannica). Should people be arrested for speaking Punjabi? Already, Mr Modi's plan of a delimitation process, which will re-distribute parliamentary constituencies according to population, in 2026 has angered southern states who see it as an attempt to give total control to the Hindi-speaking states. The Wire. "Tamil Nadu government is set to introduce a bill banning Hindi in the state. Bengalis are very proud of their language and of Tagore who is the only Indian to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Don't insult either.
