California has been burning for weeks with fires breaking out at different parts of the state. Last year, there were a total of 8,527 fires in California which burned 1,893,913 acres and killed over 80 people. Near San Francisco Bay area 200,000 people were forced to flee from their homes and the local power company switched off electricity to about a million people in the north. "Smoke from the growing blazes begins carrying 100 miles west into Los Angeles and 100 miles south to San Diego, leading to hazardous air quality throughout Southern California," wrote Eliza Barclay. Instead of using climate change as an excuse the governor can use money to clear shrubs and grasses to prevent fires. Power companies are switching off electricity to prevent sparks from starting fires. Much cheaper than upgrading their equipment. Despite high taxes California prefers to spend on illegal immigrants rather than on services for taxpayers, wrote VD Hanson. In a referendum, Californians actually approved a proposition to excuse crimes valued at less than $950, leading to an explosion of shoplifting and vagrancy.
