Children are our future.

Congratulations to Mr Kailash Satyarthi for being awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize, along with Malala Yousafzai. His Bachpan Bachao Andolan, or Save the Childhood Movement, has apparently helped 83,000 children in 144 countries. While the other Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Medicine, Economics and Literature, awarded in Sweden, are for excellence in their respective fields the Peace Prize, awarded in Norway, is purely political, as the statement by the Nobel Committee shows. It says," The Nobel Committee regards it as an important point for a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism." This when the Pakistani army has been firing at civilians across the Kashmir border for no reason whatsoever, provoking the Indian army to respond with force. While not exactly a rogue's gallery the Peace Prize has been awarded to pretty unsavoury characters in the past. There was Henry Kissinger in 1973, whose quest for ' peace with honor ' resulted in a massive increase in bombing of Vietnam, killing unknown thousands, and whose foreign policy was founded on support for dictators. He supported Pakistan against India during the Bangladesh war of independence in 1971. An unscrupulous villain who would have done the Nazis proud. There were Mohamed Al-Sadat and Menachem Begin in 1978. Sadat started the Yom Kippur war against Israel and Begin was a leader of the Irgun gang. Begin, as Prime Minister, invaded Lebanon in 1982 resulting in the massacre of hundreds of Palestinians in Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. Yasser Arafat got it in 1993. As Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation he was responsible for the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics and the hijacking of a Sabena Airlines plane in 1972, which has resulted in stringent security measures at airports, making flying an extremely unpleasant experience. Finally and shockingly, Barack Obama was awarded the Prize in 2009 and went on to become the biggest serial killer of all time, using drones to slaughter innocent civilians. A weak gasbag, he wants to prove his manhood by killing people who are unable to defend themselves against him. He has unnecessarily created a crisis in Ukraine by allowing a CIA sponsored armed uprising by extreme right-wing nationalist Svoboda and neo-Nazi, anti- Semitic Right Sector groups against an elected president, leading to civil war in which civilians are dying. We thank Mr Satyarthi for his sterling work in empowering children but we think that the only way the suffering of children can be ended is by stopping childbirth.
