An association of crooks.

Couple of days back Indian boxer, Sarita Devi lost on points to a South Korean in a clearly biased decision at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. The decision was so unfair that even the locals booed the judges. Sarita Devi was so incensed that she refused to accept her bronze medal and handed it over to Park, the South Korean boxer who had defeated her. Park left the medal on the floor in front of the podium. To add insult to injury the Olympic Council of Asia will decide whether to suspend Sarita Devi because her behavior is deemed to be unsportsmanlike. But who said that accepting blatant cheating is the gold standard for sportsman spirit? And what about the sportsman spirit of the organisers who are guilty of a crime against, not just Sarita Devi, but against India? She has apologised since. Was she forced to apologise to the cheats by our officials? The Boxing Association of India was suspended by the International Boxing Association for not holding elections for officials and a fellow from AIBA expressed anguish for " the pain and suffering the boxers as well as the boxing family in India had to go through...". What about the " pain and suffering " of the boxer who has been training hard for 4 years, in extremely hard circumstances, only to be robbed by cheats. India should have filed a criminal complaint against the AIBA to the police of the country where it is based. We are proud of Sarita, her fighting spirit and her stand against corruption but we are ashamed of the officials, who are mostly politicians or civil servants. Meanwhile the BJP and the Shiv Sena have broken up their 25 year old alliance for the coming state elections in Maharashtra. The Congress has also broken its alliance with the NCP. The elections promise to be a free for all. The Shiv Sena has one minister, Anant Geete in the central government, which is dominated by the BJP. At first Shiv Sena Chief, Uddhav Thackeray said the Geete will resign but Geete refused so now he wants to consult with the Prime Minister before deciding. He should remember how the DMK has been nearly wiped out in Tamil Nadu after resigning from the Congress led government last year. The Trinamul Congress did not fare so badly after they resigned from the government in 2012 but the Saradha scam broke soon after, not that they are related, and Ms Mamata Banerjee is now fighting for survival. US athletes are protected by their associations even after taking drugs. Our sports persons, like Sarita Devi, suffer because politicians are in control. If only she could knock out the scum.
