We should learn from Pakistan.
"Many in New Delhi welcomed President Donald Trump's return to power," but now "Policymakers are grimly absorbing some unpalatable truths. Has New Delhi overestimated its geopolitical importance?" "New Delhi has learned, too late, that it has little actual leverage in Washington." "In less than 24 hours, New Delhi's policy for the Trump era, and its carefully cultivated strategic ambiguity amid US-China tension, were both left in shambles," wrote Mihir Sharma. "It has been an axiom in Washington for more than three decades that 'it is so easy to create a storm in New Delhi'." Just mention Pakistan. "The maxim's authorship is attributed to Robin Raphel who served as the US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia in the first Bill Clinton administration." "Trump's actions and remarks on Pakistan" is "to put India in what he thinks is the place it deserves in South Asia and on the global stage. It is a sign of weakness and immaturity in India's political leadership to have risen to Trump's bait," wrote KP Nayar. Perhaps, India should learn how to hoodwink the US from Pakistan. In 2016, "The Obama administration...notified the US Congress of its decision to sell eight F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan." TIE. Because, "Pakistan's main spy agency provided the US with a lead that helped them find and kill Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Prime Minister Imran Khan said." On 2 May 2011, Laden was killed by US forces in a night time raid. NDTV. Pakistani security agents told bin Laden's neighbors to stay indoors and switch their lights off and did not respond to reports of explosions and gunfire. The World. Obama won re-election by beating Mitt Romney in 2012. BBC. In 2015, "The Afghan Taliban have confirmed covering up their former leader Mullah Omar's death for more than two years." Omar died on 23 April 2013. BBC. Mullah Omar died in a hospital in Karachi and Pakistan "strongly denied it has any information about the death of Mullah Omar". Which the US did not believe. TNIE. Osama bin laden was married to Mullah Omar's daughter or daughters. BBC. So, even though the Pakistani government was involved in protecting both the architects of the 9/11 attacks (Britannica) Obama was happy to supply it with weapons. "And now the US has announced a 25% tariff on Indian exports from 1 August, while its talks with Pakistan continue." "The 'vishwaguru' media blitz worked a while. India's G-20 leadership and photo-ops with world leaders were used to claim Modi's grandeur and portray that it is India's great fortune to have him as PM." But, "When you personalise foreign policy and priorities image-building, you hand your adversaries a tool with which to manipulate you," wrote Amitabh Dubey. It's easy to hoodwink the US. We don't know how. See what Pakistan does. Learn.
