Justice or travesty.

CBI Special Court Judge, VK Maheshwari has handed down 1 year rigorous imprisonment and fines of Rs 60000 each to OP Dabbas and AK Puri. They helped one Gurbux Biryani, who was in Tihar Jail on a drugs related offence, to shift first to LNJP Hospital and then to nearby GB Pant Hospital, to avail special nursing home facilities, on July 28 and August 5, 1988. Biryani died on January 25, 2010 while his trial was in progress. Puri was his brother-in-law while Dabbas worked in reception at GB Pant Hospital. The Judge said," Unfortunately, India ranks high in the list of countries by corruption. Anti-corruption measures in India are perceived by people to be weak and ineffective." Pity no one has been punished in the case of Vikas and Vishal Yadav who are serving life in prison for the murder of Nitish Katara. They murdered Nitish because they did not approve of his relationship with their sister, Bharti Yadav. Vikas is son and Vishal is nephew of UP politician DP Yadav. Between their convictions for murder in May 2009 and November 2011 Vikas made 82 visits to hospital, 40 of which were for follow up, while Vishal made 69 visits, 41 of which were for follow up. Murderer of Jessica Lall, Manu Sharma, son of a Haryana Congress politician was let out of jail on parole to attend night clubs and again recently to attend a wedding. He is supposed to be serving life. Today's judgement was possible because Dabbas and Puri are small fry, probably without any political connection. However, this sets a precedent and, in future, may be used to punish jail officials and politicians who conspire to make a mockery out of prison sentences. It would be best if every politician or spawn of politicians are hanged so that justice cannot be circumvented. Meanwhile, Union Minister, Mr Naranasamy has said that the government will bring a bill to make corruption in the private sector a criminal offence. Wow! Pious thoughts indeed. Silly us. We have been thinking all along that corruption is a criminal offence anyway. Or maybe not. It is a way of life for politicians without whose protection business people would not be so corrupt. Ramalinga Raju is still enjoying life even after confessing to robbing Satyam. This is known as crony capitalism. Notice that there is no mention of passing a strong Lok Pal bill to lock up politicians. Politicians are a cancer. Unless they are excised there will be no progress for the country.
