Depends on the color of your eyes, doesn't it?

"In 2017, corruption became a byword for politics on almost every continent," wrote Prof JR Wedel. In Brazil President Dilma Rousseff was impeached in 2016 and former President Luiz Ignacio "Lula" da Silva was sentenced to prison. True, but the present president, Michel Temer has managed to avoid impeachment by mustering enough support in Congress  In South Korea, President Park Geun-hye was impeached and removed from power. In Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was removed by the Supreme Court. On the other hand, the Lahore High Court freed known terrorist Hafiz Saeed, and it is accepted by almost everyone that the Pakistan Supreme Court takes orders from the army. Russian president Vladimir Putin "spreads his formula of illiberalism, nationalism, and authoritarianism to former Soviet states, Europe, and even the US". Seen through Russian eyes, Putin has rescued Russian pride from the humiliation suffered at the hands of Bill Clinton who advised "shock therapy" for the economy, bombed former Yugoslavia and expanded NATO into former Soviet states. The West loved President Boris Yeltsin because he was a drunken buffoon who could be pressured into accepting their demands. Putin may seem a villain through Western eyes but is a hero to Russians, with a popularity rating of over 80%. Just as Alexander is always labeled 'the Great' by Western cultures but is seen as a barbarian by the Persians in Iran. Corruption seems to have many facets depending on the color of the eyes viewing it. There is Victor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, Xi Jinping of China and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, but there is no one more corrupt than Donald Trump in Prof Wedel's eyes. Americans voted for Trump because "concerns about corruption weigh more heavily on Americans' minds than even crime, terrorism, or deaths in the family". "Yet despite his promise to 'drain the swamp' he spent 2017 expanding and deepening it." Trump has defeated ISIS in record time, according to R Douthat, he has clearly held Pakistan responsible for supporting terrorist groups, wrote L Pressler, and Trump has supported protesters in Iran, which have rattled the brutal regime in power. The US has officially branded the Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and Iran is using it to further its powers in the region. Barack Obama interfered to stop investigation of the Hezbollah on smuggling of cocaine and money laundering, to finance its operations in the Middle East. To actively help a terrorist group in blatant illegal activities is corruption in indeed. Perhaps there is 'good corruption and bad corruption' like Obama's 'good Taliban and bad Taliban". It all depends.
